"Death Does Not Exist is a French surrealist animated film, selected for the Directors' Fortnight at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The story follows a group of radical environmental activists preparing to violently attack a wealthy family responsible for severe damage to the planet. The leader and protagonist, Hélène, hesitates at the crucial moment and, witnessing the death of her friends, flees to hide in the forest, where she embarks on a spiritual odyssey with two paths: complacency or total commitment to saving the planet. This film is a dazzling surreal journey that shines when embracing surrealism and abstraction in its animation, although it falls into symbolism that, instead of providing clear answers or strong stances, ends up evading the core issue. Nevertheless, it is a powerful visual and spiritual journey that speaks to the urgency of change to avoid the climate crisis."
